Oscar-Claude Monet was a founder of French Impressionist painting, and the most consistent and prolific practitioner of the movement's philosophy of expressing one's perceptions before nature, especially as applied to plein-air landscape painting. The term "Impressionism" is derived from the title of his painting Impression, soleil levant (Impression, Sunrise), which was exhibited in 1874 in the first of the independent exhibitions mounted by Monet and his associates as an alternative to the Salon de Paris. Generally considered the greatest Dutch painter after Rembrandt, van Gogh's striking and exuberant paintings were all produced during a period of only ten years. His Post-Impressionist work hauntingly conveyed through forceful color, aggressive brushwork and contoured forms, the anguish of a mental illness that eventually resulted in suicide. After failing in both his career and love life, van Gogh turned inward, pursuing a position in the ministry. In 1880, disenchanted with priesthood, he discovered art as his new mission. The artist's earliest works were scenes of peasant life, but after a trip to Paris in 1886, where he encountered the works of the Impressionists and the Japanese prints en vogue at the time, he dramatically transformed his style from darkly colored realism to vibrant expressionism. Inspired by the beauty of rural Arles, he moved there in 1888, but continued to struggle with nervous crisis and depression, and after one particularly severe episode, committed himself to an asylum at St. Remy. While hospitalized, he continued to paint and produced one of his most compelling works, The Starry Night. After his death, van Gogh's powerful compositions and expressive use of color greatly influenced Expressionism.  Selling only one painting during his lifetime, Van Gogh has endured as one of the last century’s most influential artists.

This Handmade Artisan Necklace, is composed of freshwater pearls in black, and ivory-pink tones, with silver tone wine bottle and corkscrew charms! The central pendant is a bunch of grapes made with black freshwater pearls on a silver tone metal vine. Sip your wine with a cute nod to Dionysus around your neck! Great for dressy or casual, because pearls go with anything--like wine! At the tip of the necklace, to hang down the back, is a silver tone circle charm that says "You're one of a kind." (Note that there is a small spot of discoloration on the face of the circle charm.) Necklace is an adjustable length, with silver-plated brass chain, and silver-plated clasp. The necklace measures just under 21" from tip-to-tip, including clasp and finish charm. This necklace was handmade, specially for Brookline, by a local artisan.
